The Marley EW400 cooling tower, with four cells, designed for a water flow rate of 4,500 m³/h and with base dimensions of 36.8 × 7.52 m, is owned by Messer Tehnogas Serbia and is located at its Smederevo plant. A specific feature of this cooling tower is that its entire structure is made of Douglas fir and Redwood.
The overhaul included the following works:
- Replacement of the drift eliminators
- Replacement of the fill
- Reinforcement of the load-bearing structure
- Cleaning and disinfection of the walls and load-bearing structure
- Cleaning of the spray water distribution system and replacement of damaged nozzles
- Repair of leaks in the cell walls
The greatest challenge was to preserve the advantages of the wooden structure, so a material was selected for the reinforcement that does not add significant load to the load-bearing structure while providing additional strength.
All works were completed to a high standard and within the specified deadlines, ensuring operation of the cooling tower at maximum capacity.
